Karachi: Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi bestowed a lifetime achievement award and honorary membership to legendary singer, music maestro and qawwali Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan at a ceremony held at ACPK on Tuesday.
President Arts Council Karachi, Ahmad Shah while praising the singer said that “We are proud to present the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Lifetime Membership of the Arts Council Karachi to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in recognition of his massive achievements and phenomenal work for music.”
Speaking at the ceremony, Rahat said, “I am highly privileged to accept this award by a internationally famed institute of Arts & Culture, Arts Council and thanked President Shah for this recognition”.
Living legend Anwer Maqsood, Sindh Minister of Culture, Syed Sardar Ali Shah, International producer Salman Ahmed and Secretary Arts Council Ejaz Ahmed Farooqi were also present at the event.
Rahat said that “Anwar Maqsood is my mentor. He is the legend of words and stories. It is not less than an honor for me to speak in front of him.”
It must be mentioned here that Rahat is the first Pakistani musician to have received this honor from Arts Council Karachi, which was previously awarded to Zia Mohyuddin, Anwer Maqsood, Iftikhar Arif, Amar Jaleel, and Asad Muhammad Khan.
Minister of Culture Syed Sardar Ali Shah while appreciating the struggle and work of Rahat said that the combination of folk and classical music which was created by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is maintained by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in its right spirit.
On the occasion, President ACPK Ahmed Shah also demanded the nomination of Nishan-e-Imtiaz for the music legend Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan from the government.
