New CCTV footage from the Delhi Police crackdown on Jamia Milia Islamia students has emerged, reported India today.
The footage is from December 15 showing New Delhi police beating up students in the library of Jamia Milia Islamia when it went on campus to stop protests against India’s controversial citizenship law.
According to the Indian news publication, the new footage shows cops entering the the university’s Old Reading Hall in riot gear and beating up students who were studying.
The publication reported that the video was released by the Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC), a group comprising students and alumni of the university.
A statement released by JCC, quoted by the Times of India read, “The CCTV footage shows the brutal act of police forces and how the state-sponsored terrorists are playing the game of brutality on the students of Jamia who were preparing for their examination inside the Old Reading Hall of Library.”
The tension has been on the rise since December 15 when Delhi police forces stormed the varsity in New Delhi after students protesting against the controversial citizenship law.
