Journalists on Thursday staged a protest in front of the Ministry of Information against the death of a colleague, who had died of a heart attack and not been paid for 10 months.
While warning the TV channel of filing a case against it for not giving their colleague his due salary, the protesters said, “Why hasn’t the government paid its dues? Why don’t journalists receive their salaries on time?”
“This is our final warning to the government and media channel owners as we have suffered long enough and will not tolerate this repression anymore,” the protesting journalists said.
“Who is responsible for the financial death of media workers and their families?” they asked during the protest.
During the protest, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Zahid Khan assured the journalists that the political parties support them.
While Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Farhatullah Babar said, “To stifle the voice of truth, the government is putting restrictions on the media.”
Following to the death of journalist, the executive management of the media organization revealed that all dues of the media person has been paid off and also for the coming six months the TV channel has given approval to disburse the salary of the deceased to his family members.
