Karachi: The 2nd Commissioner Karachi City Marathon held in the city of lights on 12 January where a large number of people from different walks of life actively participated.
Senior journalist of Daily Dawn Tahir Siddiqui for the second time in row successfully bagged first position in the veteran category in 1010km 2nd Commissioner Karachi Marathon 2020 which was stretched out to 10kms in the precincts of DHA in the city.
Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani, Additional Commissioner Karachi – I Asad Ali Khan, Head of the organizing committee of the Marathon, Deputy Commissioner South Syed Salahuddin Ahmed Olympian Islahuddin, and representative of the sponsor of the event Waqar Ahmad, Head of Corporate Affairs, Nestlé Pakistan were also present at the Marathon race event that started around 9.00 am.
The categories criteria for participating in the race was:
- Under 19 category.
- Under 29 category.
- 30 plus categories for both men and women.
- Special categories for differently able people.
- Special category for senior citizens.
It must be mentioned here that also the disabled and senior citizens participated in the Marathon.
Moreover, ten prizes in each category were given to the successful winners.
Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah was the chief guest at the event.
Talking to the media persons, Murad said that “People of Karachi lively articipate in all kinds of sorts activities and they are also much concerend about their health and fitness.”
“Such events should always be organized with in intent to promote sports activities across the province and also to provide an environment of fun and relaxation,” the chief minister added.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner Karachi said that “It is his desire to continuously organize such energetic and healthy activities in the city and this Marathon event should be made a regular activity in Karachi which takes on board all the age groups of the society.”
“This year also people of Karachi has shown a wave of positivism and seriousness towards participating in Marathon race in huge numbers”, said Shallwani.
Commissioner Shallwani also thanked the Sindh government for its support in the race event and commended the proper security arrangements as well.
Shallwani also thanked all partners who assisted the city government in making this cause a sure shot success.
The Marathon began from Moin Khan Academy at Khayaban-e-Tipu Sultan and passed through Abdul Sattar Edhi Avenue to Captain Farhan Shaheed Park to Khayaban-e-Ittihad and then to its final destination at Moin Khan Academy.
