LAHORE: The provincial police of Punjab on Thursday registered two cases against 250 lawyers for attacking the Pakistan Institute of Cardiology (PIC).
It must be mentioned here that the police had lodged cases against the lawyers for damaging the public property in the precincts of PIC.
FIR registered against atleast 200 unknown lawyers on the complaint of an official of the hospital.
The police have registered the cases against lawyers under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including 322 (qatl-bis-sabab), 452 (trespassing), 353 (assault to deter public servant from performing duty), 354 (assault on woman to outrage her modesty), 148 (rioting with deadly weapon), 395 (dacoity) as well as Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
A certain group of lawyers having a rift with the doctors at PIC, yesterday stormed the hospital and burnt police van after vandalizing property.
As a result of this incident, few casualties were also reported as doctors were on strike boycotting the emergency operations.
On the other hand, enraged lawyers also thrashed Punjab Information Minister Fayaz-ul-Hasan Chohan.
